Contextualizing Changes: Migrations. Shifting Borders and New Identities in Eastern Europe
October 8-10 2014
Institute of Ethnology, Sofia, Bulgaria
During this conference I presented a paper exploring the various hierarchies and interdependencies involved in narrating the Polish nation, with particular attention to the relationships between language, colonial processes, literature, cultural translation, and physical geography. The paper considers how these overlapping structures shape ideas of Polish identity, belonging, and national space, and how different forms of cultural and geographical knowledge contribute to the ways the nation is imagined and represented.
